The next stop of the basketball journey for Klairus Amir will be back in the United States at Campbell University.
Sydney King #245 Amir, who played high school hoops at Dream City Christian School in Gandale before spending the past two seasons with the Kings, recently announced his decision - one in which he is excited about.
“I chose Campbell University because it felt like the right fit both athletically and academically,” Amir said.
“The program most definitely has a strong culture that emphasises hard work and growth, so the opportunity to compete at a high level while also getting a quality education was too good to pass up.
“Playing college ball has always been a goal of mine, as I’ve always wanted to push myself against top competition for my age and continue developing my skills.

“College basketball in the US is also an incredible platform to grow as a player, and it also gives me the chance to pursue a degree and build a future beyond basketball, which is also very important to me.”
Amir, who was part of the under 19s Australian selection camp in 2019, credited the Hoops Capital side for helping him continue to develop as a player and providing him a platform to achieve this goal.
“Playing in Sydney helped me grow tremendously,” said the 20-year-old.
“The competition, coaching, and overall environment there pushed me to improve every day.
“I learned how to play at a much better pace and be more disciplined, and understand the game at a deeper level.
“That experience gave me the confidence and skill set to pursue opportunities overseas, and ultimately helped me earn a spot at Campbell.”

Looking ahead, Amir’s coaches believe he can contribute on both ends right away.
“The coaches see me as someone who can contribute with my versatility and have been clear about their expectations and believe I can bring energy on both ends of the floor, whether that’s through scoring or defending,” he said.
“My role will continue to evolve as I earn trust and experience, but I’m excited to compete and contribute right away.”
