Hunter's Boomers thump Indonesia in Jakarta

Every player on Australia’s roster participated in the Boomers’ big win over Indonesia, as five players registered double-digit scoring in a dominant 106-51 victory.

Australia comfortably led the world’s 74th-ranked side by 16 points at half-time, but a third quarter in which Indonesia was restricted to just two points laid the bedrock for the absolutely dominant win - sparked by six points eight rebounds, two steals and one block by Sydney's Jordi Hunter.

The home side then rebounded to score 16 points in the fourth quarter, but Australia - who also had Sydney's David Hillard as the physio - outscored them by 19 points in the final term to blow the margin out further and finish the game with a 55-point margin.

Brisbane forward Josh Bannan once again starred in what was his second appearance for the senior national team and ended the game with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Adelaide 36ers star Isaac Humphries top-scored for the Boomers with 18 points.

Cairns’ Taran Armstrong came agonisingly close to a first senior double-double and finished the game with 11 points and nine assists, while Nick Kay also added 14 points.

Lester Prosper was the strongest performer for Indonesia and ended the game with almost half his team’s points.

Prosper scored 26 points on 10-18 shooting and pulled in eight rebounds. Muhammed Reza Fahdani Guntara was the home side’s second-top scorer with nine points.

Centre of Excellence pair Kye Savage and Josh Dent scored five and four points respectively in their debuts for the senior national team.

Australia has now taken a stranglehold on its qualification group which contains South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand.

The Boomers are the only undefeated side remaining in the group, following victories over South Korea and Indonesia.

South Korea sits second in the group following its win over now-third-placed Thailand. Indonesia sits fourth as the only winless side.

The next FIBA Asia Cup qualification window isn’t until late November and after the Boomers’ upcoming Olympic campaign.

The time and location of the next qualifier – a clash against Thailand – has yet to be confirmed.

Sydney’s Hunter and Perth’s Ben Henshall will now turn their attention to the NBL Finals.

Hunter’s Kings play New Zealand in a sudden-death Play-In Qualifier on Wednesday night, while Henshall’s Wildcats will play the winner of Wednesday’s Seeding Qualifier in the Playoffs.
