“We were a match made in heaven”.

And with those seven, most sincere words, Sydney Kings superstar Kendric Davis won the respect and hearts of many on Monday night after describing his personal relationship with coach and dear friend, Brian Goorjian.

Davis, who finished only two votes behind Bryce Cotton in the race for the MVP title, opened up on what Goorjian meant to him at the Andrew Gaze Trophy night in Melbourne.

Goorjian spoke about how a close friend told him to pursue Davis if the opportunity to secure his signature came up.

The pair met up in Las Vegas and from there, a beautiful friendship began with Davis joining Sydney after a tough time at the Adelaide 36ers last season.

“I’ve been in this game a long time and (I’ve) never had a better human being,’’ Goorjian admitted.

“I think that’s more important than the basketball. (As for) the basketball, just what he’s done for our team, for Sydney basketball, and for the NBL, he brings people to the stadium.

“When I see him in the gym, it gives me energy and joy. I’m really happy for Kendric.”

Davis said Goorjian gives him plenty of self-belief and support on and off the court.

“He’s like a father figure to me. He believed in me, took time out with me. I don’t have a Dad, so he is like my second Dad,’’ Davis said.

“It just feels good that there is positive energy around me now.

“I just stay true to who I am. There’s somebody for everybody. We were a match made in heaven.”
