The Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings will be celebrating Indigenous culture over the next month culminating with our NBL Indigenous Round home game on March 6.
The Kings’ Indigenous game will be against the Cairns Taipans on Sunday, March 6 at 2.45 pm at Qudos Bank Arena.
The game will feature acknowledgements to Australia and Sydney’s rich Indigenous history, culture and heritage.
The Kings will unveil their Indigenous jersey design next week, including the story behind the design from artist Stewart James.
Stewart James will be at the game and will spend time with the players during the week leading into it, explaining the meaning and significance of the jersey.
The experience with Stewart will be one of several that the Kings players will participate in this season as part of the Club’s long-term commitment to their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and to positively influence the lives of Indigenous Australians.
The Kings spearheaded their own Indigenous Round game back in the 2018-19 season, before the NBL introduced the league-wide Indigenous Round in the 2019-20 season.
Last season the Kings introduced the Claude Williams Most Valuable Player Award. The award is presented to the best player on the court during the Indigenous Round clash. Last season Craig Moller won the award; the presentation can be watched here.
This season again, Claude will present the award to the recipient in a post-game on-court presentation.
The Claude Williams MVP is an initiative that honours and pays tribute to the incredible sporting achievements of one of the NBL’s first Indigenous players and former Kings Head Coach, Claude Williams.
