Lau is thrilled to be a part of the Hoops Capital Side ahead of the NBL25 season.
“To be a part of the Sydney Kings is an extraordinary opportunity, especially at my age. I’m most excited about joining an environment of support and excellence, and being amongst the best of the best”, Lau said.
“Being mentored by elite teammates and a coaching staff with the experience and expertise of the Sydney Kings is a true honour. Recently, the NBL has seen significant growth in its development of young talent, and I'm really excited for the year ahead.
“Aside from that, stepping onto the court in a Kings uniform for the first time is what I look forward to the most. Growing up in Sydney, I have always admired and idolized the Kings, so being part of the team now is such a surreal feeling.”
Currently finishing high school at Sydney Boys High, Lau has worked his way through the Australian basketball system to become one of the nation’s most intriguing up-and-coming players.
In Lau’s most recent game with the Bears in the Junior Premiere League, the young forward notched up an impressive stat line scoring 36 points, nine rebounds, five steals, three assists, and two blocks on a field goal percentage of 65%.
Assistant coach Daniel Kickert was thrilled at the prospect of Lau joining the Hoops Capital side.
“Henry has a great work ethic and has a knack for using his size and length to his advantage. I’m excited to see how those parts of his game continue to develop against the rest of our squad over the course of the year,” Kickert said.
“Henry will bring a strong desire to improve and compete each and every day. Characteristics like that amongst our younger players are paramount as they have such a great impact on the quality of our daily training environment.
“Henry has that competitiveness and desire in spades and we look forward to his future.”
Lau’s hard work and dedication towards his craft should see the young forward make inroads during NBL25.
“From as far back as I can remember I’ve worked relentlessly on my game. I’m going to bring the work I’ve put into my game for sure. Explosive energy and maximum effort on both ends of the floor is how I’ve been taught to play the game, I’ll definitely be bringing that to the Kings.
“I look forward to getting better every day. With every opportunity I have, I’ll make sure the Kings organization and fans know they made the right choice signing me.”
