It could be fair to say that hoopers from the Savannah Pride Club might be the loudest cheer squad ahead of the annual Andrew Gaze MVP Awards Night on Monday, February 23.
Based in Mount Druitt, Savannah Pride is a proud club producing a constant flow of exciting young basketballers from South Sudan.
More than 35 Pride players have played professionally and have represented their state or country, including Kings player Bul Kuol, who represented South Sudan at the Paris Olympic Games.
The Sydney Kings have been a strong supporter of Savannah Pride. Along with Kuol, Kouat Noi and Makuach Maluach have enjoyed being part of the western Sydney club since arriving at the Kings, often visiting to pass on their knowledge to aspiring young South Sudanese kids.
It’s why the Pride organisation will be cheering extra loudly at the coveted Andrew Gaze MVP Awards Night after Kuol, Noi and Maluach were nominated in different categories.
Kuol is up against Kings team-mate Xavier Cooks for the Damian Martin Trophy for Defensive Player of the Year, Noi is one of five nominees for the Best Sixth Man award, and Maluach is in line for Most Improved Player.
The Kings also have Cooks and Kendric Davis in the running for the coveted Andrew Gaze Trophy for Most Valuable Player while Jaylin Galloway is a contender for the Next Generation Award.
Whether our Kings win an award on Monday night, one thing for certain is that the Savannah basketball club will be full of ‘pride’ for their idols.
The Andrew Gaze MVP Awards Night will be broadcast on Disney+ and Kayo from 7:30pm AEDT on Monday, February 23.
