It’s been a big 2020-21 season for the Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings. On the court the team have remained resilient, and despite spending long periods away from home and being heavily impacted by injuries, the Kings are currently still in the hunt for a finals spot.
But as well as a demanding schedule on the court, the Kings have continued to do their bit off the court in the community as well.
The Kings are delighted to again be working with the Starlight Foundation who are dedicated to brightening the lives of seriously ill children, adolescents, and their families through a range of programs, including wish granting and Starlight Express Rooms in every major children’s hospital in Australia.
Today is a special day as the Kings will be celebrating their annual Purple Reign Round which will help to raise some much-needed funds for sick kids.
You can get involved and show your support by taking part in Starlight's Fans Pledge, and pledging a donation for every 3-pointer the Kings score during the game today at Qudos Bank Arena.
BACK THE KINGS FOR SICK KIDS HERE
In previous years, the Kings would typically be making weekly visits to Westmead and Randwick Children’s Hospitals to hang out with the kids in the Starlight Express Rooms, but due to COVID-19 all visits this season have been online.
Throughout the year the Kings players have spent time on Zoom calls, chatting to the kids and giving them the opportunity to ask questions, as well as putting a smile on their faces while they’ve spent time in hospital.
With two young kids of his own, Kings Forward Brad Newley knows how important it is to give back when he can.
“During my time with the Kings, every time we've visited the Starlight Express rooms it has always put a smile not only on the kids faces, but on ours as athletes as well” Newley shared.
“The amount of fun we have playing games with these kids, and the impact we're able to have on their lives while they're going through tough times is invaluable. I hope everyone comes down to our Starlight Round and gets behind Fans Pledge to support the amazing work Starlight does” said Newley.
It's the third straight year the Kings have been involved with the organisation and a relationship that has continued to grow year on year. Last year the Kings held their inaugural Starlight Celebrity Game which the Club hopes to be able to bring back next season.
The Kings take on the Adelaide 36ers this afternoon at Qudos Bank Arena from 4.45pm. Tickets are still available from ticketek.com.au/sydneykings and you can pledge your support for the Starlight Fan Pledge here.
