Following the NBL’s announcement that Indigenous Round would be staged this weekend and coinciding with NRL Indigenous Round, the Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings and South Sydney Rabbitohs have come together to encourage fans to get out to Sydney Olympic Park this weekend to recognise and celebrate Indigenous Australians.
The NBL’s Indigenous Round coincides with National Reconciliation Week and follows the success of last year’s inaugural round which aims to recognise and acknowledge Indigenous culture and basketball across Australia and New Zealand.
It will be the Kings third consecutive season wearing an indigenous jersey and paying our respects to the strong indigenous community here in NSW.
With the Kings and Rabbitohs both scheduled to play home games at Sydney Olympic Park this Saturday, the two Clubs are bringing fans together to enjoy a full day of Sydney sport and encourage the building of respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
Kings Members will be able to gain access to the Rabbitohs game, whilst both South Sydney Rabbitohs and Parramatta Eels members will be offered access to come out and enjoy the Kings game.
Kings CEO Chris Pongrass was pleased to see the two sports coming together to celebrate the occasion and encouraged all Sydney fans to get along to help the Kings secure a spot in the Finals.
“Saturday’s set of games are of great importance to recognise and acknowledge Indigenous culture – we are thrilled to be working with the Rabbitohs to allow more fans and members to be part of these special events. We expect this Indigenous Round game to be our biggest crowd of the season and would like to call on all fans to come and show your support".
In the lead up to Indigenous Round the Kings have also unveiled their jersey design which was created by Indigenous artist, Bruce Shillingsworth Snr. Last week Uncle Bruce spoke to the playing group about reconciliation and the story behind the jerseys that the players will be wearing.

The experience was one of several the Kings players have participated in this season as part of the Club’s commitment to their Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), and ongoing partnership with the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of NSW. AH&MRC will also feature as Club’s official game day partner this weekend.
The Kings play their Indigenous Round game against Melbourne United at 7.45pm this Saturday 29 May at Qudos Bank Arena, South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Eels from 5.30pm at Stadium Australia.
A reminder to all Kings fans that due to the two games being on in Sydney Olympic Park it's strongly encouraged members book their parking in advance of the weekend to ensure they don't miss out. You can do so here.
Kings members will receive their email with their ticket offer in the coming days.
