The Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings and Head Coach Adam Forde have mutually agreed that his one-year contract will not be extended beyond this season.
Following a successful rookie season as Head Coach, Forde is looking to pursue an opportunity that is better aligned with his family circumstances and professional aspirations. He will remain at the helm for the remaining games of the current season, as the team continues their push for a finals spot.
The Kings remain committed to reshaping the direction of the Club and on signing a Head Coach that will execute the long-term vision the organisation has developed.
Known for his deep-rooted knowledge of the league and tactical approach to scouting, Forde spent one season as lead assistant which saw the Kings make it through to the Club’s first Grand Final appearance since 2008, before being elevated to the position of Head Coach immediately prior to the NBL21 season tipping off last December.
Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings Chairman Paul Smith thanked Adam for his time in Sydney.
“We have had open and honest dialogue over the past couple of months and believe this is the best direction for Adam and our Club. The last two seasons have seen the Club deal with several coaching rotations, and a key element in our future planning requires a more stable coaching structure” Smith said.
“We are heading into a shortened off-season, so this decision has been made now to allow Adam the best opportunity to secure another head coaching role. The timing will also allow the Kings to be active in the market for the recruitment of our next Head Coach”.
“But our season isn’t done, we are still in the hunt for a Finals spot and nothing changes regarding our ambitions for this season” Smith added.
“On behalf of the entire Sydney Kings family, we thank Adam for his time in Sydney and wish him and his family all the best in the next part of his journey”.
CEO Chris Pongrass echoed Smith’s comments.
“Adam has exceeded expectations this season, particularly when faced with the injuries and challenges our team has endured; the difficulties of this season are not lost on anyone. However, this is the best decision for all involved. Adam is one of the brightest and most driven head coaches in this league and I believe he has a long and promising coaching career ahead of him”.
“The Kings are committed to achieving sustainable, long-term success and this shift in direction allows us to make good on this commitment and recruit a coach that will continue to drive the Clubs vision beyond this season.”
Forde was grateful for the opportunity to lead the Club.
“I have enjoyed and grown from my two years here in Sydney. I am very appreciative of Paul Smith, Paul Kind and Chris Pongrass who afforded me the opportunity to lead the Kings and for all the support and assistance that was offered to me during my time here”.
“This season had its challenges, and after a number of candid and healthy discussions, I am comforted knowing that this outcome is best for both me and my family, and the Kings organisation. Their vision is clear, and I admire the direction that they are building towards” shared Forde.
“The disrupted season and the difficulties COVID has imposed has put things into perspective, and allowed me to reassess my priorities. Planning for the future must include what is best for my family, not just myself, and being away from home has taken its toll over the last 12 months.”
“Thank you to all the coaches, staff, players, members and fans. My time in Sydney has been enriching and life changing” Forde said.
The Kings have opened their search for the next Head Coach of the Club.
