Hoops Capital quartet shortlisted for NBL1 North awards

Sydney Kings pair Shaun Bruce and Jaylin Galloway are in the mix for NBL1 North silverware.

Four Hoops Capital stars have been rewarded for their strong 2023 NBL1 North seasons on the court by being shortlisted for respective awards.

Kings guard Shaun Bruce, who is averaging 15.75 points, 8.38 assists and 5.63 rebounds per game this year with Logan, is one of five players in the running for the 2023 men's MVP award, alongside Mackay's Isaac White, Gold Coast's Jason Cadee, Ipswich's Nathan Sobey and fellow Thunder player Majok Deng.

The other King to be nominated is Jaylin Galloway, who is one of three players in the running for the Men's Youth Player of the Year Award.

Galloway, averaging 18.56 points, 5.56 boards and 2.63 dimes per contest, is up against Southern Districts' Akoldah Gak and Cairns' Ky Stattman for the prize.

The other two Sydney athletes recognised were Flames duo Lara McSpadden and Shaneice Swain.

Newcastle product McSpadden, tallying 17.71 points, 11.41 rebounds and 0.76 blocks per contest for Rockhampton, is in the running for Women's Defensive Player of the Year alongside Townsville's Steph Reid and Darwin's Ella Bollmann.

While Cairns' Swain (averaging 19.13 points, 6.13 rebounds and 4.38 dimes. is up for the Women's Youth Player of the Year - being pitted against South West Metro's Lulu Twidale and Townsville's Alex Fowler.

The award winners will be announced in the coming weeks.
