Glover's incredible journey to 100-game NBL milestone

Angus Glover's career has had more highs and lows than most, from two NBL championships to three knee reconstructions and four surgeries - including one that saw his father Allan donate his left hamstring to his left knee.

So the fact that the Wollongong product will chalk up his 100th NBL game this Saturday during the Sydney Kings' round five fixture with Cairns is extraordinary. 

"I definitely thought I wouldn’t have made it to 100 games," said the 25-year-old, who thanks everyone who has played a part in his journey to this point.

"My history with my injuries are pretty well known around basketball circles but I don’t want to be defined by my knees.

"In saying that, to get to 100 games through my seven years in the league, is a long journey.

"I feel very privileged to reach the milestone after what I’ve been through - especially being told to retire by my surgeon following my third ACL reconstruction.

"But I'm proud to say about 90 of my 100 games have come after that talk with the surgeon."

As such, the now 25-year-old acknowledges how special it is for him to join the 100-game club - a milestone teammate Jordi Hunter achieved earlier this season.

"[This milestone] means a lot," said Glover, who has averages of 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists through his first 99 NBL games.

"Not everyone gets to 100 games, so to be able to play that many is definitely special.

"I believe the enormity of it will sink in when the game is finished as I’m treating this game as any other game and don’t really want any focus on me - I just want to win for the team."

As special as the occasion will be at the Cairns Convention Centre, Glover knows getting a win against the 2-1 Taipans will be the ultimate way to celebrate bringing up his ton.

"For us, it all starts on the defensive end so for us being physical and locking into the scout the coaches give us," the NSW product said.

"If we do that, we will be able to play our style offensively, which is rebound and run - we always look good in the open court."

The Hoops Capital side's round five game will tip-off at 7.30pm AEDT on Saturday and be broadcast on ESPN via Kayo Sports.
