Having represented both sides of the Freeway Series, Angus Glover is no stranger to the intensity of the rivalry between Sydney and Illawarra.
While the Kings and Hawks experienced drastically different NBL23 campaigns – Sydney emerged as champions while Illawarra registered just three wins for the season – Glover believes form and position go out the window when the two sides are involved.
NBL23 saw Sydney win all three of the meetings between the sides, however, each of the victories only came by a margin of single digits.

“It’s always close between these two teams regardless of where we are on the ladder,” Glover told The Illawarra Mercury.
“You saw that last season, I don’t expect anything different this season.
“I think the rivalry over the years, no matter the ladder position or expectations, the games are always super, super close.”
The Kings lost all three games at the Hungry Jack's NBL Blitz, with a new-look roster and new coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah at the helm, while the Hawks won two from three games and will go in with plenty of confidence at home on Saturday night.
Sydney and Illawarra face off on Saturday, September 30, live on ESPN via Kayo from 8pm AEST.
