The Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings are pleased to announce that Andrew Bogut has officially joined the Club's ownership group.
A 14-year veteran of the NBA, Bogut is an icon for Australian basketball. Selected by the Milwaukee Bucks with the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, throughout his NBA career he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers, highlighted in 2015 by winning an NBA Championship with the Golden State Warriors.
In 2018 Bogut signed a two-year deal with the Kings, leading the Club to a Finals appearance in 2019, a Minor Premiership in 2020, and their first Grand Final appearance since 2008. He was also the recipient of the league’s Most Valuable Player award in 2019.
One of the biggest names to ever play in the NBL, Bogut has helped transform the Sydney Kings and highlight the NBL on a global scale, and now will continue to do so from the sidelines.
Chairman and Co-Owner of the Sydney Kings, Paul Smith, welcomed Bogut’s arrival to form an expanded ownership group.
“Andrew arrived in 2018 as a player, and his record stands on its own, but he contributed so much more to our club and the position we find ourselves in today. To be able to have Andrew as a business partner is a very special occasion for me personally as we begin a new phase in our business journey together” Smith shared.
Bogut’s commitment to the Kings is a strong endorsement of his belief in both the Club and Sydney basketball, and the future of the NBL as one of the best leagues in the world.
“I am delighted to be formally joining the Sydney Kings ownership group” Bogut said.
“In the next journey of my life after retiring from the great game of basketball, I look forward to continuing to help make the Sydney Kings the premier basketball franchise in the NBL”.
The popularity of basketball continues to grow in Sydney and around Australia, with the recognition of the Kings and the NBL on a global scale at an all-time high.
The Kings will also be celebrating Andrew Bogut’s illustrious playing career at this Saturday’s final regular season home game at Qudos Bank Arena.
Fans are encouraged to come down and show their support for the Kings as they fight for a Finals spot against the Brisbane Bullets at 8.00pm, and send off one of the greats of our game as he officially transitions into Club ownership.
