Vasiljevic confident scoring outburst just around corner

By his own admission, Sydney Kings guard Dejan Vasiljevic is in a 'shooting slump'.

But if his fourth-quarter display against Melbourne United on Christmas is anything to go by, a point-scoring explosion is just around the corner for the Australian Boomer.

"I am in a slump at the moment, which has gone on for about a month, but the best way to get out of it is to keep shooting and being aggressive," said Vasiljevic, who enjoyed playing on Christmas and believes it was a huge success for the club and league and something that will only grow in the future.

"I'm just trying to stay confident in myself, as I know I'm doing the work - so I know the results are just around the corner."

The Miami University alum's next chance to prove that correct comes in Friday's grand final rematch against Tasmania at Qudos Bank Arena - with Scott Roth's side winning the season's previous encounter on December 11.

"As good as we were against Melbourne, we still need to work on getting up and into people defensively," he said.

"We're good defensively right now but not where we need to be - I know Chase [Buford] is going to keep pushing us to get to that level.

"That's a big key for us against Tassie, as it'll be up to us execute on the defensive end of the floor and not let players like Milton Doyle get loose again.

"Then offensively, it's up to us to do the little things and create open looks, as we only managed six points in the fourth quarter last time we played them."

A win during the round 13 clash will go a long way to securing the Hoops Capital club an all-important top-two spot.

"Finishing in that top two is 100 very important, as we don't want to be involved in that play-in," the 25-year-old said.

Friday's fixture against the Ants will also mark the second of four Hoops Capital double-headers this season, with the Flames taking on the Capitals before the NBL match.

"These double-headers are very important, as people have to appreciate we're two teams, one club," he said.

"Our women's team are very talented and they showed that last game when we went and watched them against the Capitals.

"They've just got to keep rolling and building momentum - I look forward to watching them in action again on Friday."
