Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings forward Tom Vodanovich has been selected to represent New Zealand in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The Qualifiers will take place from the 24-28 of February and will be hosted in the Philippines, one of three hosts for the FIBA World Cup in 2023.
Tom Vodanovich made his debut for the Tall Blacks in 2018, in the FIBA World Cup Asia Qualifiers.
He told Kings media about the passion he has for New Zealand basketball and what it means to represent his country.
“We have a lot of talent in New Zealand,” Vodanovich said.
“We just have one team in the Breakers, so for people like myself to get out and play for teams like [The Kings], it’s great. There’s a bunch of Kiwis in the league now hopefully there is more to come.”
Kings CEO Chris Pongrass couldn’t be prouder of Tommy’s development since signing with the Kings as an injury replacement for Xavier Cooks.
“Tommy has been nothing but a professional and a leader for the Kings group,” Pongrass said.
“We will miss Tommy, both on and off the court but it will be for a good reason. Representing your country is a high honour and we could not be prouder of him.”
Vodanovich will miss the Kings’ away game against the Adelaide 36ers due to his national team commitments.
The Tall Blacks will depart from Brisbane on February 20 and arrive back at the start of March.
