The Sydney Kings have been recognised among New South Wales’ leading sporting teamsafter being named a finalist for Team of the Year at the 2026 NSW Sports Awards.
The Kings are one of 77 finalists from more than 30 sports announced by Sport NSW, joining an elite group that includes triple Olympic champion Jessica Fox, State of Origin-winning coach Laurie Daley and medal-winning Glasgow Commonwealth Games athletes.
The Kings’ nomination places the club alongside the NSW Blues rugby league women, NSW Waratahs women, UNSW Wests Magpies water polo club, sailing crew Kairos Racing, the NSW Blues Women’s lawn bowls side and the NSW Junior squash team in one of the awards’ most competitive categories.
The nomination follows another landmark period for the Sydney Kings and reflects the work and dedication of players, coaches, staff, members, partners and supporters across the organisation.
Hoops Capital CEO Mark Thompson said the club was proud to be recognised among the state’s best.
“To be named a finalist for Team of the Year at the NSW Sports Awards is a proud moment for everyone associated with the Sydney Kings,” Mr Thompson said.
“This recognition belongs to our players, coaches, staff, members, partners and fans. Last season we broke the NBL attendance record and delivered one of the most thrilling championship series campaigns Australia has seen. We’ve set the benchmark and we’re looking to do it again this year.”
“We’re incredibly grateful to Sport NSW for this acknowledgement, and we will keep pushing to make Sydney proud both on and off the court.”
The Kings will now await the winners’ announcement at the NSW Champions of Sport Ceremony, to be held at The Sydney Event Centre, The Star, on Monday, 23 November.
