Star point guard Casper Ware Jr is primed to make his return to the NBL after recommitting to the Sydney Kings for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
The three-time All-NBL First Team and NBL Champion had initially chosen to explore his options overseas before landing on a decision to return to Sydney.
“I’m really happy to be returning to the Sydney Kings” Ware shared.
“Last year felt like home to me with the relationships I made here, and you usually don’t get a second opportunity at these things”.
“I’ve been talking to Brucey [Shaun Bruce} and some of our other guys, and our biggest focus is let’s finish this job that we started last year”.
“I felt like I owed a little something to Sydney and I wasn’t done yet, so I want to get back and give them my all to try and get us that Championship” Ware said.
A proven talent in the NBL, Ware has earned a name for himself as one of the best two-way players in the league. In 2019-20 he averaged 18 points and 4 assists in 30 minutes per game, while helping the Kings to a Minor Premiership and the Club’s first Grand Final appearance since 2008.
Kings Head Coach Will Weaver is thrilled the Club has been able to retain one of the premier guards in the competition.
“Casper was one of the first people to show his excitement for what we’re building here in Sydney before many others” Weaver said.
“I think his return is made more special by him deciding that this is where he wants to play, even after hearing from the many other teams around the world that would love to have a winner like him."
“We’re proud that the quality of the people within our program, and the success they have earned has made this a Club guys want to come to and stay."
“The way Casper trains, the way that he recovers, the relationships he builds with teammates, the energy he brings – those are things you're excited about bringing back to our team, and hypothetically, would miss terribly if he left. I believe we’ll benefit from the continuity between last season and this one, which tends to be the blueprint for successful NBL teams” Weaver shared.
Casper Ware becomes the ninth contracted player for the Sydney Kings joining Brad Newley, Xavier Cooks, Shaun Bruce, Craig Moller, Angus Glover, Dejan Vasiljevic, Jordan Hunter and Didi Louzada for the upcoming NBL season.
The NBL season is currently scheduled to start on December 3, however that date remains flexible. Memberships are now on sale, here.
