The Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings are pleased to announce the re-signing of Championship guard Shaun Bruce for a further two years.
Bruce has spent the last three seasons with the Kings and has become a key leader both on and off court for the club.
He played a pivotal role for the Kings across the grand final series with league MVP Jaylen Adams out injured and was integral to the Kings winning both games two and three in this series against the Tasmania JackJumpers.
Bruce said he was delighted to be extending his association with the #NBL22 champions.
“Across my career I’ve had to change and move a lot, so to be somewhere and keep that familiarity was a big factor in my decision,” Bruce said.
“I feel at home here. The club has done an amazing job and make it feel like home and we can continue to build on that.
“Individually it keeps us at the level competing for a championship. Whatever my role within the team I will do it to the best of my ability to compete for a championship and Sydney is the best place for me to do that.”
Becoming an NBL champion with the Kings was a major milestone for the Horsham product.
"The championship was a dream come true,” he said.
“It’s easy to say, but I’ve wanted to be an NBL player since I was in primary school … to finally get that championship and finally tick that box, there was a lot of relief.”
The 31-year-old celebrated his 250th NBL game milestone during the grand final series and became only the 41st King to play 250 or more games while playing for the club at a stage in their career.
The man affectionately known as “Brucey” started his NBL career with Cairns over a decade ago but eventually found his way to the Kings after an impressive stint as an injury replacement player with Adelaide.
His first season with the Kings was a breakout one in 2019-20, being nominated for the league’s Most Improved Player and Sixth Man awards, as well as taking home the Sydney Kings Coaches’ Award.
Since then, he has been an integral part of Kings basketball.
“Shaun brings an awful lot of experience, leadership and maturity to our group,” Kings CEO Chris Pongrass said of the signing.
“He is a great team-mate, leader and just a good guy to have as an example for our younger players.
“He is the ultimate professional in the way he approaches his training and game preparation, and we are very glad to have him for another two years.”
Bruce joins young guns Angus Glover and Biwali Bayles as key components of the Kings back court already locked away for season #NBL23.
Jordan Hunter and Jaylin Galloway are also confirmed for the Kings roster for next season. Next Star Makur Maker will test the waters in the NBA Draft before a decision is made on his return to the Kings.
Bruce is currently enjoying a well-earned break in the off-season.
