With full-time now sounding on both the Sydney Kings and Flames’ 2023-24 seasons, Hoops Capital would like to acknowledge how impressive the campaign was for both its teams before gearing up for two massive campaigns – following the recent unveiling of Brian Goorjian as the Kings’ new coach.
First of all, the Flames broke their all-time standalone crowd record by having 6,834 supporters witness their round 14 showdown against the Southside Flyers at Qudos Bank Arena for the ‘Thank You’ Lauren Jackson game – which also represents the second-biggest in the competition’s history (second only to the 7,681 fans that witness the Flyers and Flames do battle at John Cain Arena in WNBL23).

This impressive number took the Flames’ total attendance in WNBL24 to 28,966 and an average of 2,633 across the team’s 11 home games at both Qudos Bank Arena and Quaycntre – the highest mark in the competition.
These figures represent a 62 per cent increase on WNBL23’s average of 1,623 and come on the back of the club announcing an all-time high membership number this campaign.
Not to be outdone are the Kings, who have had a record-breaking season for themselves.
Following their last home game against Illawarra on Sunday, February 11, which attracted the club’s second-highest crowd of NBL24 (14,832), the purple and gold’s total attendance for the regular season was 175,704 – a record for a 14-game season.
Spearheading that number was the club’s Pink Hoops figure of 16,605, which marked the biggest crowd of NBL24 and the fifth largest in club history.
These gave the harbour city side an average crowd of 12,550, close to 20 per cent more than last season’s championship-winning campaign (which was the previous record) and eclipses Perth’s all-time average crowd record mark.
If you add in the club’s home Play-In Qualifier, it takes the total fans to 183,935, representing a 22 per cent increase on NBL23.
Adding to the two-time defending champion’s impressive resume in NBL24 is the fact they sold out of all memberships this season.
“Sydney is the toughest sports market in the world to draw live attendance, with 23 professional teams promoting matches,” said Hoops Capital executive director Paul Kind.

“I’m proud of our teams and staff, that we have continued to raise the bar, breaking attendance records and offering the best live sports experience in Sydney.
“While we have had momentum with the Sydney Kings for a few years now, it’s particularly exciting that we built such a strong fan base for the Sydney Flames.
“The Pink Hoops and Lauren Jackson ‘Thank You’ games were special events, both gave the Flames a strong platform to build attendance and support.”
