Makoi's South Sudan edge closer to World Cup spot

Sydney Kings' Jackson Makoi and his South Sudanese national team have edged closer to securing their spot at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, after recording two wins from the weekend's three African qualifiers in Tunisia.
After starting their qualifying campaign 6-0, Makoi's side suffered their first loss on Friday by going down 69-66 to Senegal at Monastir - with the Kings' development player adding two points, one rebound, one assist, one steal and one block in the loss.

South Sudan, featuring other NBL talents Jo Lual-Acuil, Bul Kuol, Sunday Dech and Majok Deng, rebounded 24 hours later against the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to the tune of 101-58.
In the impressive win, Makoi added seven points, three boards, three dimes, one swipe and one block in 20.46 minutes off the bench.

Makoi's squad wrapped up their successful stint on the road with a win against Egypt 85-65 on Sunday - with the Melbourne-raised talent contributing 14 points, two assists and a rebound, all while shooting 83.3 per cent from the field.
This win moves South Sudan to the top of Group F, with an 8-1 record - one win in front of Egypt.
The Daytona State College alum, whose next chance to represent South Sudan will be on February 24 against Senegal, will now return to Sydney to continue pre-season training with the Kings ahead of the NBL23 season.
