NBL reigning champions The Sydney Kings are proud to announce we will be incorporating our Indigenous design into all player jerseys for the 2022-23 Hungry Jacks NBL season.
The design will no longer be exclusively for the Indigenous round, it will be incorporated into the side panel of every home and away jersey.
Hoops Capital Co-owner and chairman Paul Smith said this decision was an important step in the journey of the organisation.
“We want to do our part for true reconciliation and this inclusion is a result of our continued learning and understanding of Aboriginal people, culture, and community,” Mr Smith said.
“The 2022 NAIDOC theme is Get Up-Stand Up, and we as a club and organisation are proud to announce and demonstrate our commitment to our cultural learning journey.
“Since the launch of the Sydney Kings’ Reconciliation Action Plan, we have continued to engage and seek out opportunities to present culture and the communities in which we operate and represent.
As owner of both the Sydney Kings and Sydney Flames, we can also announce the Kings and Flames will both proudly wear the same jersey for the respective WNBL and NBL indigenous rounds.
Hoops Capital indigenous consultant Sheree Rankmore said the indigenous uniform inclusion was “was overall and culmination of the work and growth of the organisation”.
“Hoops CapitaI aims to be an organisation of inclusion and is willing to learn and most importantly evolve with its learning,” Ms Rankmore said.
“Whilst it may be considered a small change, the organisation is wearing its heart and social beliefs on its sleeve, or in this case, side.”
The Kings and Flames indigenous design was created by Stewart James, a Wiradjuri Man of the Narrandera Murrumbidgee River People.
The design and look of the 2022-23 Sydney Kings jersey will be released closer to the start of the NBL season.
