For the third straight year, the Sydney Kings will partner with The Salvation Army for their annual Christmas night clash with Illawarra at Qudos Bank Arena.
The partnership, which dates back to the historic first December 25 fixture in NBL23, helps raise money for The Salvos’ annual Christmas Appeal.
Hoops Capital executive director Matthew Denholm is proud to support The Salvation Army once again, during one of the club’s marquee fixtures.

“We are thrilled to continue our tradition of partnering with The Salvation Army for our game on Christmas night,” Denholm said, whose club sponsors will donate money for every three-pointer hit by the Kings to the Christmas Appeal.
“The Salvation Army works tirelessly to bring people together over the festive season – we strive to use basketball as a way to connect these communities and celebrate Christmas in an exciting and enjoyable way.”
During this year’s Christmas night event at Qudos Bank Arena, there will be fundraising initiatives with the generous support from Kmart, Harvey Norman and Beyond Bank Australia donated to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal.
The Salvation Army, which recently launched its 2024 Christmas Appeal, is aiming to raise $27 million to support the Australian community who are doing it tough during the festive season.
This launch coincides with new research by The Salvos, which found over 15.3 million Australians (72 per cent) will be more mindful of their spending this Christmas compared to previous years, and more than four in 10 (42 per cent) will have their Christmas negatively impacted this year because of the cost of living.
Further, almost half of Australians (48 per cent) will buy fewer presents for their children and loved ones, and an alarming 11.9 million people (56 per cent) will spend less on food this Christmas.

It’s because of statistics like this that highlight how important the Kings’ partnership with The Salvos is.
“The Salvation Army is thrilled to continue our relationship with the Sydney Kings as we collaborate with them again in 2024,” The Salvation Army’s external communications director for NSW, Major Gary Masters.
“Christmas is a marvellous time to celebrate community and those special relationships, and this event embodies the relationship The Salvos seeks to build with the Australian community during this festive season.
“For the Salvos, Christmas is the busiest time of year and with the cost-of-living crisis, we anticipate an even greater number of people to be seeking our support.

“We are so grateful for the incredible partnership with the Sydney Kings, as it makes it possible for The Salvos to support even more people in our community and give hope to those in need this Christmas.”
During the Christmas period last year, thanks to the generosity of the Australian public, The Salvation Army nationally:
- received over 330,000 gifts and toys for families who might otherwise have gone without,
- provided over 184,000 meals to those experiencing homelessness,
- and provided more than 92,000 bed nights for families in need of accommodation during the festive season.
