Hoops Capital are proud to announce the appointment of James Newman as General Manager of Basketball Operations to lead the next chapter of the Sydney Kings and Sydney Flames’ success on court.
Mr Newman joins Australia’s largest basketball enterprise following an incredible period as General Manager of Paris Basketball, leading the team to victory in the Eurocup 2024 Championship, securing the 2025 French Cup and setting a record Euro League debut season.
“I am extremely proud to be joining the Hoops Capital team as General Manager of Basketball Operations.”
“The NBL and WNBL are globally recognised for their talent, energy, and on-court excellence. I’m excited to join such a respected and decorated club that has performance, community engagement and culture at the heart of everything they do.”
“I’m looking forward to working with our talented roster of players and working alongside Mark Thompson and the ownership group to ensure a strong and successful season for us both on and off the court.” Mr Newman said.
CEO of Hoops Capital, Mark Thompson, said: “Paris captured the world’s attention last year, not only for the Olympics but for the level of excellence shown across sport, culture, and performance. James was at the heart of that environment - bringing together strategy, data-driven decision-making, and a genuine people-first approach to team culture.”
“His global experience and proven success in leading winning programs make him an exceptional addition to our organisation. We’re thrilled to welcome James to Sydney as he helps lead the next chapter of growth for the Kings and Flames, both on and off the court.” Mr Thompson said.
Co-owner of Hoops Capital, Luc Longley, said: “James brings with him passion and a deep expertise. His time in Paris showed me that he can offer us a fresh perspective as well as passion, energy, and creativity needed to take our program to the next level.”
Mr Newman will commence in early January to lead the Sydney Kings and Sydney Flames into the peak of the 2025/26 NBL and WNBL season.
