Goorjian excited by challenge in front of his Kings

Brian Goorjian and his Sydney Kings will go into round four full of confidence, following a strong last-up victory against Brisbane.

As happy as the Kings coach was with the nine-point win at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre, he knows there's always room for improvement.

"I thought we played good defence for the most part on Saturday, which led to plenty of transition baskets but the big picture moving forward is our consistency across the four quarter, as I didn't like the way we finished the game," Goorjian said.

"That [consistency] is our Achilles heel right now and we're working hard on it - it seems like in most games we have blocks on really strong play followed by blocks where we let ourselves down.

"We know it's early in the season and we're improving in that facet of our game but we can't afford to have breakdowns in our play like that during these two games this weekend."

As Goorjian alludes to, he knows both matches this round are going to be extremely tough, starting with the 36ers.

"Adelaide has evolved a lot since we played them the first time and I'm confident we've evolved as a team too," the six-time NBL champion said.

"They now have as good of an eight-person line-up as anyone in the competition, testing you multiple ways.

"They have one of the best guards [Kendric Davis], two elite bigs that can hurt you inside with Montrezl [Harrell] and Isaac [Humphries] and an amazing home fan base, so we know it's going to be a challenge on Friday in all areas.

"After a good week at training, we feel good about ourselves and we're excited about how we're progressing."

Friday's clash will be followed by another less than 48 hours later when the harbour city side hosts the Taipans at Qudos Bank Arena.

"Having done the quick turnaround a few weeks ago after Perth, we're going to make a few adjustments as a team, to ensure we're as ready as we can be for Cairns on Sunday," he said.

"That game presented another challenge, with them also having great guard play and being a much-improved team from what we saw in the pre-season.

"We all know we're going to be tested like we were against Illawarra but we're all pumped to be back on our home floor, in front of our home fans."
