The Sydney Kings have today announced that Head Coach Will Weaver has been granted permission to travel to the United States to participate in in-person interviews arising from recent discussions with NBA teams. The Club and its ownership not only support Will in this endeavour but have actively encouraged it since recruiting him to the organisation.
“Will has kept us informed in an ongoing basis in regards to the recent discussions he has been involved in”, Chairman and Owner Paul Smith confirmed.
“We support Will in this process. It is implicit to our vision for the Sydney Kings, a club that helps ambitious people move forward in their careers. Be it a player, coach or a member of our management team, my greatest thrill is seeing people achieve their ambitions” Smith said.
“Equally we have an obligation to our players, staff, members and fans to ensure the Kings continue to plan for the upcoming season and ongoing success.”
“The fact that our Head Coach exploring an exciting career opportunity is just part of the reality of pro sport and its constant evolution. It’s exactly why our planning doesn’t have an off switch” said Smith.
Until we have any further news it remains business as usual for the Sydney Kings. In the interim, Assistant Coaches Adam Forde and James Duncan will lead the players, with the support of the Kings Head of Performance Toby Banfield, Special Advisor Luc Longley, and CEO Chris Pongrass.
The Sydney Kings and Will Weaver will not be not be making any further comment at this time.
