Carter becomes fourth King inducted into Ring of Honour

Kings fans have spoken and the fourth purple and gold legend to be inducted in the club's Ring of Honour will be BJ Carter.

The three-time NBL champion, who played seven seasons and 150 games for the purple and gold, between 2001-2008, will join Tom Garlepp, Ben Knight and Brad Rosen in the Hoops Capital club's prestigious Ring of Honour.

"Honestly, when I got the message, I had to read it a couple of times to see if it was legit or not and when I realised it was real, a wave of emotions overcame me," said Carter.

"I was speechless and started crying in the car by myself - I didn't realise how much an honour like this would mean to me but obviously it does.

"I then took a moment before calling my wife to try and explain what had happened but I couldn't get the words out.

"Once she realised what I was saying, we both started crying and she told me how proud of me she was.

"It was a very cool moment."

The Sutherland Sharks junior will be presented his ring during a special presentation, involving club chairman and co-owner Paul Smith and NBL23 inductee Rosen, at half-time of Sunday's Kings and Hawks round 19 clash at Qudos Bank Arena.

"Unlike most, my career ended overnight - not through injury, a bad attitude or the club not wanting me, but rather the Kings going into liquidation," the 43-year-old said.

"I lost my career just like that - it's been close to 15 years and I still hadn't gotten over it.

"This honour gives me that closure on that part of my life I've been speaking for so long.

"I honestly got the most of my ability as I could through hard work, so having something like this happen and tie a bow on my career is really special."

Carter is also blown away that he topped the fan-voted poll and edged out fellow Kings he grew up idolizing and admiring on the court.

"Someone like Leon [Trimmingham] had a massive impact on me as a kid and made me want to be a Sydney King," said Carter,

"Then someone like Bruce Bolden, who I've now worked with, was a superstar of the game - as was the likes of Ben [Madgen] and Luke [Kendall].

"So for the fans and staff to remember my time as a King so fondly, against the likes of those legends, and the passion I played with is amazing and I can't thank them enough - it's really touching they chose to induct me."
