Kings fans have had a box seat for one of the most exciting shows in the Hoops Capital … The Jaylen Adams Show.
Now everyone can get an insight into one of the most exciting players to hit Australian basketball in recent years in episode four of the Building the Kingdom documentary, which is now available on Kayo Sport.
The episode captures Jaylen’s emergence in the National Basketball League and how it impacts as the Kings start to string wins together with his influence as point guard.
In the episode aptly titled ‘The Jaylen Adams Show’, you hear from Jaylen himself about how his mind works and his approach to basketball and from Australian basketball legends such as Luc Longley and Shane Heal.
“Having an American point guard who can score and create and create that hype is really important in a city like Sydney,” Heal notes in the documentary.
“It (Sydney) needs it. Sydney loves winners. That’s what it’s about. Not everybody is cut out to play in Sydney.
“There’s more pressure, more hype, more pressure on when you lose in Sydney and you have to have a certain personality to ride with that and he seems like he has a good demeanour to do that.
“They are as good a chance to win it as anyone this season, the Sydney Kings, and it’s on the back of him.”
The documentary captures other key moments including a hugely important game against the Perth Wildcats where the team’s defensive mentality of being “dogs on the ball” starts to take shape.
“Tonight’s about one thing ... being a dog,” coach Chase Buford says when addressing the team.
“They’ve got some cool f**ken cool cats over there, we let them be comfortable they’ll dance and do whatever they want, so let’s come out and be a dog on the ball.”
It’s a pivotal moment for the side.
“That moment to me, that Wildcats game, sort of embodied to me the change that has happened in the last two or three weeks that I feel like we’ve found a little bit of soul as a group,” Kings special advisor Luc Longley says in the documentary,
Other features of this episode include _
- *Jaylen talks about confronting News Corp’s chief basketball writer Matt Logue about ranking him 17th best player in the league in the pre-season.
- Kings CEO Chris Pongrass talks about the process of recruiting NBA champion Ian Clark.
- And Jaylen’s monster dunk and then game-winning assist off a missed free throw against the Brisbane Bullets.
