Adams' fourth-quarter performance one for the record books

The performance of Sydney Kings guard Jaylen Adams, particularly in the fourth quarter of Thursday's win over the Phoenix, was one for the record books.

His 21 fourth-quarter points against South East Melbourne are the most ever scored by a Kings player in the fourth quarter of any NBL game.

The previous record was held by Shane Heal, who had 20 points in the fourth quarter against the North Melbourne Giants at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on April 12, 1996.

Further to that, the NBL22 MVP's 21 points in the fourth period against the Phoenix equalled the most points ever scored by a King in any quarter of an NBL game - joining Isaac Burton (who had 21 points in the first quarter in a game against the Illawarra Hawks at the Snakepit on June 20, 1997).

Adams' 17 made free throws is a single-game franchise record, beating the 16 made by CJ Bruton against Townsville at the Townsville Entertainment Centre on November 15, 2003, and 16 made by Matthew Nielsen against the New Zealand Breakers at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on 9 January 9, 2004.

Finally, the St. Bonaventure University alum's 18 free throws attempted equalled the most ever attempted by a Kings player in a game, equally with the likes of Dwayne McClain in 1992, Bruce Bolden in 1995, Matthew Nielsen in 2002 and CJ Bruton in 2003).

Other notable stats from the round 16 fixture at Qudos Bank Arena were:

• Shaun Bruce is now equal fourth all-time in games played for the Hoops Capital club with 181, joining Bradley Sheridan. Three club legends are ahead of Brucey in the games played on the leaderboard; Matthew Nielsen (244), Damian Keogh (215) and Tim Morrissey (191).
• Xavier Cooks is now in the top 10 all-time for the Kings in career offensive rebounds, career defensive rebounds, career total rebounds and career blocked shots, and is the franchise leader for the Kings in all four categories for games played in the NBL 40-minute era.

The harbour city side now head to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre to take on the Bullets on Saturday, January 4 from 8pm AEDT – live on ESPN.
