Next generation: Goc Malual signs with the Sydney Kings

The Sydney Kings are fired up to welcome rising star Goc Malual as the club’s newest Development Player for the 2025/26 season. The dynamic 19-year-old talent brings energy, hunger, and a winning mindset to the Kings’ roster.

Malual’s basketball journey began at age 11, and just four years later he earned a scholarship to Newington College; a turning point that changed his life’s trajectory.

"[At Newington] I improved academically, physically, my skillset, and as a person as well,” says Malual. 

By 17, his hard work was paying off. Malual was invited to attend the Australian under-17s training camp.  
 
“I couldn’t stop smiling,” he said. “My coach Rex told me, ‘that’s the hard work you’ve put in. You deserve it’,” he recalls. 

Driven to compete

For Malual, the motivation is simple: he loves to compete. 
 
“Competing with the guys and training every day, knowing we’re all working toward an NBL championship, is what drives me. 

“I want to contribute however I can, through training, supporting the team mentally, or lifting the energy. I know I bring energy to the group, and if the guys can feed off that, then I’ve done my job.”

The opportunity to be a part of the Kings’ roster isn’t something Malual has taken lightly. 
 
“Training with the Kings has meant a lot,” he says. “I just try to absorb it all.”

Savannah Pride Founder and Head Coach Mayor Chagai, who first coached Malual in 2018, said his maturity and humility have always stood out.

“Goc is a calm player and started at Savannah Pride in 2018 as a young kid. Growing up, he really focused on what role he can play in the team, whether rebounding or passing, he loves to find his people. He’s physically strong and he uses it well for a team advantage. He’s a humble kid and is focused on what the coach is saying.

“He’s gained a lot of experience in a professional environment from school, at the Centre of Excellence, and playing. He knows what the coach expects, he’s organised and ready to do what’s required. He’s ready to listen, learn and work hard.”

Building the future at Hoops

Sydney Kings Head Coach, Brian Goorjian said Malual’s addition reflects the club’s focus on developing talent and building culture.

“Goc is a great fit for the Kings. He’s got the right attitude, the drive to compete, and the willingness to learn from the best in the game. We’re excited to see him grow in our environment and contribute to the culture we’re building here in Sydney.”
