The Brydens Lawyers Sydney Kings are excited to announce that former NBA first rounder and Kings big-man Jarell Martin has recommitted for NBL22.
Martin and the Kings both picked up their mutual option to re-join the Club after an impressive first season in the NBL where he averaged 18 points and 7 rebounds a game.

Having spent time with Martin during his tenure as the Director of Basketball Operations with the Memphis Grizzlies and now a season in Sydney, Kings CEO Chris Pongrass was pleased to be keeping the talented import in Sydney for the upcoming season.
“Even though Jarell put up strong numbers, we still only got to see a small sample of what he can do in this league - coming in late, dealing with injuries, adjusting to the physicality - we expect him to have a big year” Pongrass said.
“Jarell continues to be a key component of our roster, and Coach Buford is excited to have such a dynamic offensive threat to play through. He is one of the leaders of this team and having another player return highlights the continuity that will flow with this group heading into next season”.
In high school Martin was a McDonald’s All-American and was named Louisiana’s Mr Basketball in 2013. He attended LSU where he averaged 13.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.
Following his Sophmore year at LSU, he declared for the 2015 NBA Draft and was selected with the 25th overall pick by the Grizzlies where he spent three seasons. Martin averaged 7.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field during the 2017-18 season. He then went on to spend a season with Orlando Magic before joining the Kings in Sydney last season.
Martin is intent on making the jump back to the NBA and believes the Kings provides him with the best opportunity to do so. Kings’ management and his representation are in continued discussions regarding NBA outs for the upcoming season.
He joins Jordan Hunter, Shaun Bruce, Dejan Vasiljevic, Angus Glover and Biwali Bayles as contracted players for next season with more announcements expected to be made in the coming days and weeks.
The 2021-22 NBL season is currently expected to return to an October start time with further details to be provided as it comes to hand.
