Biography
The 38-year-old is getting ready for a third season with Melbourne United in NBL24 and is looking to continue a glittering career that has spanned across the globe.
Growing up in Adelaide before heading to the Australian Institute of Sport, Newley started his NBL career in the 2003/04 season with the Townsville Crocodiles. He was both named Rookie of the Year and Best Sixth Man in his debut season.
He would end up playing three seasons with the Crocs before being taken at Pick 54 in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets, which would kickstart a remarkable run of seasons throughout Europe.
He played in Greece for both Panionios and Pannellinios and in Spain with Valencia and Gran Canaria, however the allure of returning home proved too strong, heading back to the NBL with the Sydney Kings in the 2016/17 season.
He would spend five seasons with the Kings including being part of the Grand Final Series of 2020, and continued his NBL career at Melbourne United.
Newley has also had an outstanding career for the Australian Boomers including playing at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, and the World Cups of 2006, 2010 and 2014.
