Record number of eyeballs on Kings during NBL25 season

The NBL25 season was a massive one for the Sydney Kings in more ways than one.

Not only did the Hoops Capital club attract the two biggest crowds of the 2024-25 campaign - 16,705 fans versus Tasmania on January 19 for Pink Hoops and 14,112 supporters against Perth on February 2 - but they also had four of the top 10 most-watched free-to-air games on Channel 10 during the regular season.

The top of that list was the aforementioned Sydney and Perth round 19 fixture at Qudos Bank Arena, which had an average free-to-air audience of 57,000 and a free-to-air average reach of 297,000.

The other three to feature in the top 10 came against Illawarra on December 25 (35,534 audience and 236,858 reach), the Hawks on September 29 (40,000 audience and 198,000 reach) and Tasmania on January 19 (38,000 audience and 197,000 reach).

These four games helped power the overall free-to-air numbers to record numbers, including a growth rate of 26 per cent for the average audience and 28 per cent for average reach on the NBL24 season.

“The NBL remains the fastest-growing sporting league in Australia, and we couldn’t be happier with the increases we have seen in all areas this season,” NBL CEO David Stevenson said.

“To see the league continue its unprecedented growth is a huge credit to the clubs, players, fans, broadcast, commercial and government partners, volunteers, and venues, who all play a valuable role in making the NBL one of the best sport entertainment products in the market."

Adding to all this, the harbour city club registered its highest-ever membership number during NBL25.

“We want to thank all our members, fans and our community who joined us for a game or checked it out on TV with us this year," Hoops Capital executive director Matthew Denholm said.

"Whether at Qudos Bank Arena, where we put on the best game day experience in all of Australian sport, or catching our games on Channel 10 or ESPN, our goal is to entertain all who see our games, and the numbers show that people want to see the Sydney Kings.

"Bring on the NBL26 season, where we look to take another step forward and take back the throne.”
