Cody Ellis signed with MightyMite Sydney Kings in August 2013, but did not join his teammates until December as he was completing his college commitments in the United States.
After having a short period to adjust to his new home and familiarize himself with his new team, Ellis made an immediate impact for the Kings on Jan. 3 against Cairns, scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds on debut. Ellis backed up his impressive debut with a season high 13-point performance the following game against Adelaide.
Ellis continued his impressive play for the remainder of the season as the Kings made a strong finals push to close out the season. Ellis finished the season averaging 5.1 points, 3.1 rebounds in 19 minutes per game.
Born in Perth, Ellis left in 2007 to attend the Australian Institute of Sport. During his time there, Ellis led the AIS to the 2008 Southeast Australian Basketball League finals. Ellis also represented Australian at the junior level on numerous occasions, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2007 Oceania Tournament. In 2009, Ellis made the U-19 Australia Emus squad and competed at the FIBA World Championships, finishing the tournament as the Emus second leading scorer.
Ellis left the AIS in 2009 to attend College at St. Louis University in the US. After a successful four year career at St. Louis, Ellis graduated in 2013 with a Communications degree. Ellis ended his career for the Billikens as one of only 27 1,000 point scorers in school history, while also ranking sixth all-time in 3-pointers made.
He is the son of NBL legend Mike Ellis, who was dominant in the 90’s as one of the most exciting point guards in the game.
Cody currently resides Sydney with his American partner Lauren and young son Chase.
