Kings Sign Garrett Jackson

The Sydney Kings today announced they have signed import forward Garrett Jackson for the remainder of the 2016/2017 National Basketball League season.

Jackson has trained with the team for a number of sessions as the Kings considered filling the vacant third import slot created by the departure of guard Steve Blake. He impressed the coaching staff with his athleticism, versatility and, crucially, the ease with which he fit in to the existing playing group.

Coming off a brilliant campaign with North West Tasmania in the SEABL competition where he was named to the 2016 All-SEABL team, the 6’7 (201cm) 98kg (215lb) Jackson has previous NBL experience via a stint as an injury replacement player for Melbourne United in the 2015/16 NBL season.

Ironically, his best game came against the Sydney Kings, when he tallied 14 points and five rebounds in Melbourne’s 104-95 victory.

A standout in high school in Portland, Oregon, he played two year at the famed University of Southern California before transferring to St Mary’s College, teaming up with Australian Boomer and current starting point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks, Matthew Dellavedova.

As a senior with the Gaels in their 2014/15 campaign, Jackson started 20 of 31 games and was a solid contributor, averaging 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field.

In just his second professional season with North West Tasmania in 2016, the talented and versatile Jackson averaged 22.9 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and shot 54% from the field.

Sydney Kings Managing Director Jeff Van Groningen believes Jackson provides much-needed depth to the team as it strives to secure a play-off spot.

“Garrett is a strong, multi-positional player and a quality individual who will do a great job for us,” Mr Van Groningen said.

“He has already shown us that chemistry within the group is a strength and I am sure he will assist us in achieving our goals this season.”

Garrett Jackson will be in uniform for their blockbuster intrastate derby game against the Illawarra Hawks this Friday night at Qudos Bank Arena.
